Nico Macchia takes place, with great historical and visual accuracy, at the end of the sixteenth century, an era characterized by deep religious conflicts. The book tells the story of three knights of fortune: Nico Macchia, exiled from Ferrara, his birthplace; Conghe Dommert, a Landsknecht who left their companions, and Mal Mouhal Assad, an Ottoman army deserter.
